Immanuel Community Core Values

We know that God has been so good & faithful to us over the years as a community and are excited & expectant about the future. We move forward full of hope, full of faith and confident that we are following His lead. The Core Values below express some of our shared values that makes us who we are and cause us to do what we do.

1.  Intimacy with God

We believe that intimacy with God is the starting point for who we are and what we do. We want all that we do to be out of the place of deep intimacy with Father, Son & Holy Spirit - we want to be Spirit-led in everything!

John 1:32 says that the Holy Spirit descended & remained upon Jesus and we want to walk in such a way that the Holy Spirit continually rest on us and finds a home in us (1Cor.3:16/6:19), so that we only do what we see the Father doing (Jn.5:19).

We believe this has been a Core Value of this community since its birth and throughout its history.

2.  Worship

This naturally flows from the first Core Value and as many will know we have a ‘rich’ heritage & history in relation to worship. We see it as a privilege to be able to freely worship the King of Kings (Rev.19:16) and join the whole of heaven in the continuous day & night worship (Rev.4:8). We have had many prophetic words spoken over us pertaining to the anointing upon us for worship. We recognise that true worship is a lifestyle and not just music & creativity.

3.  Prophetic

We believe this covers various aspects of ‘the prophetic’ that are linked to us as a community. We are a prophetic community by the very nature of how we ‘do’ church; we are prophetic in the call upon us to be pioneers; we love to give & receive prophetic words (1Cor.14:3) and we love prophetic worship. The prophetic also includes the ‘end times’ and being a people who understand the times we live in (Mt.24) – both words & lifestyle!

4.  Prayer

Scripture tells us to continually pray (Eph.6:18); that our prayers rise like incense before The Lord (Rev.5:8); and that they are ‘powerful & effective’ (Jam.5:17). Therefore, prayer has been key to us as a community over the years. We truly believe the prayer room is the boiler room of the community and will play an integral part as we move forward.

Under prayer comes the whole area of intercession, praying for revival, praying for the nation as well as the part it plays in intimacy with the Lord.

5.  Community

The community has always been inspired to live out Acts 2:42-47. For most of us community is outworked in a specific geographical location and with the belief that we’ve been called to this specific location as the primary place to see transformation and to influence for the Kingdom. However, community also reflects the call upon us to be a church that reflects a ‘Family’ model - we want to see relationships, marriages and families flourishing. It is within community that the scriptural truth that ‘each one has’ (1 Peter 4:10) comes into its own and is outworked.

6.  Discipleship

Discipleship has been and continues to be a Core Value we believe in and outwork in an ongoing way every day. In fact this with the Core Value of community has been part of the foundation of our distinctive way of bringing through the next generation. Jesus had disciples and commissioned us to ‘go and make disciples’ (Mt.28:19-20). The Apostle Paul expresses the heart of discipleship when he says:

“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you”  (Philippians 4:9)

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ”  (1 Corinthians 11:1)

One of the main reasons we believe in Christian education and Immanuel School exists is because we believe in discipleship and educating the next generation, so that they know God and are equipped to live in and transform society & culture (Mt.10:7-8).

We’ve always believed in the importance of accountability - accountable relationships, the need to develop Godly character, to be servant-hearted, to have a teachable-spirit, and to be faithful & able (1Tim.3:2-9/ Ti.1:7-9). It is also within the context of discipleship that we see responsibility & authority being released too.

“The reason I believe in discipleship, including one on one discipleship, is not only because I believe in accountability, but because my experience is that it is the best model to grow & develop in as a disciple of Jesus!”   - Peter Taylor

7.  Kingdom Vision

We believe we have been called to such a place as this at such a time as this and know we are called to be part of HIS-story in a bigger way than just within Immanuel Community. The leadership has always had a vision bigger than just ourselves and have sought to build relationally in the area with the other ministers and congregations. We believe we are only a part of The Body and not ‘it’ by ourselves (1Cor.12:12-31). For us the bigger picture only makes sense because of the little pieces AND the little pieces only make sense in the light of the bigger picture – both need each other!

We seek to build His Kingdom (Mt.6:33) in the area and so believe we are called to have Kingdom vision and Kingdom perspective at the heart of who we are.

We desire to outwork our calling to be a ‘Resource Centre’ to the wider area and Body too!

8.  Salvation and Transformation

Jesus said:

“As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”  (Matthew 10:7-8)

We dream & desire to see lives transformed, the ‘lost’ saved, and our area impacted by the Gospel. Many of us are longing to see a breaking out of the supernatural (salvations, healings, people set free, miracles, sign & wonders) in greater measure all the time & everywhere. We long to see our work places, schools, colleges & even families touched by Jesus like never before.

We also know that many within The Body need breakthrough, healing, deliverance or transformation to take place in their own lives too and we desire to see believers flowing in the fullness (Jn.10:10) & freedom (Jn.8:32-36) of Christ. Believers mature, complete and not lacking anything (Jam.1:4). Believers fully equipped, empowered & released to be all that God created them to be and do all that God created them to do!

This list of Core Values is not exhaustive and should not limit us, but we believe are a good foundation, and reminder, as to who God has called us to be and our shared values. We believe there is much for us to explore, discover & rediscover in these Core Values in the days ahead.
