House Churches

Introduction

In November 2004 Immanuel Church officially ceased to exist and was replaced by Immanuel Ministries together with a number of self-governing house churches.  Since that time Immanuel Ministries has been renamed Immanuel Community.

Relational unity

The house churches are part of Immanuel Community.  The relationship of the house church leaders to the community leaders is based on relational unity, trust and partnership.  For example, the leaders of the house churches have made themselves accountable to members of the Immanuel Community Leadership Team. The house church leaders also come together regularly with the community leaders for fellowship and strategy development.

Unique flavour and identity

Each house church has a unique flavour and identity.  A value for each of them however would be to support their members in whatever sphere they are called to operate (workplace, home, school, college, etc).

Network of relationships

There's a network of friendship and relationship across the house churches, which serves as a cohesive factor for all areas of ministry and when the community (all the house churches) comes together for a larger celebration once a month.

What does it mean to be part of Immanuel Community?

Tuesday 4th October 2011

Paul’s talk on Sunday about our change of name from Immanuel Ministries to Immanuel Community helped to put into words what many of us have felt for a while, namely that our identity is not linked primarily to what we do, but who we are
