National and global trends

Introduction

Proverbs 25:2 tells us that 'it is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings,' and here at Christian Spectrum we research and monitor a number of strategic trends, both national and global in nature.

I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.  Then the Lord replied: 'Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.  For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.  Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay' (Hab 2:1-3)

Motivation

We believe that this, in tandem with a study of the prophetic scriptures, points us towards the unfolding purposes of God at the end of the age, which in turn helps us to pray and act.  A number of other scriptures also encourage us in this regard:

i    1 Chronicles 12:32 tells us that the men of Issachar 'understood the times and knew what Israel should do.'  In Matthew 16:2-3 Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and Sadducees, telling them how they couldn't 'interpret the signs of the times.'  We want to be aware of the signs of the times as they unfold in our lifetime; to prayerfully interpret them, guided by the Holy Spirit, and then communicate what God reveals to us both to the church at large and to the world.

ii   In Matthew 24 Jesus warns his disciples about key events that would take place immediately prior to his second coming.  He told the parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25 to encourage his disciples to 'keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.'  Jesus' desire is to return to find his Bride, watching, spotless, pure and ready.

iii  Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that 'our struggle is not against flesh and blood.'  We believe it's vital to recognise that everything we see around us is affected by the unseen realm.  Like Elisha and his servant, (2 Kings 6:15-17), we want to have our eyes opened; to see reality as God sees it.

Overarching Trends

We recognise that some trends are more significant than others.  These we would classify as major, overarching trends which we believe can be found within the prophetic scriptures concerning what is to take place in the End-Times.  Events that have been foretold and will herald and signify the imminent return of the Lord.  These could be categorised as relating to the coming New World Order and because there is significant overlap between each aspect they will need to be read together in order to understand the picture fully.  We have included Freemasonry because, we believe, it's both a major influential and historical movement and a catalyst and vehicle in the implementation of this new world order:

The attack on Christians, Israel and Judaeo-Christian values
A coming One World Government under the Antichrist
A coming One World Religion under the Antichrist
Freemasonry

These trends will also need to be seen in the context of what God says about the Church, Israel and the End-Times generally.

Streams or sub-plots

Feeding into these trends are what we would describe as a number of gathering streams or sub-plots.  At one level they are no less important since they act as pointers and can be seen to provide specific impetus, support and strength to the major trends.  As we look at these streams we will also, at times, discuss what our attitude should be towards them:

Radical Islam
Surveillance society

Spiritual principles impacting the trends

Finally, to fully understand the trends, we need to appreciate the nature of the spiritual dimension impacting them.  Only then can we fully discern the spiritual principles at work, including God-decreed aspects of cause and effect:

Unseen realm
Evil progression and limitation
Land and environment
City and society
