Creationism under attack

Academics call for teaching of creationism to be banned in schools

Sir David Attenborough, Professor Richard Dawkins, the British Humanist Association and the think tank Ekklesia are amongst the signatories of a new statement promoting the teaching of evolution, not creationism in schools.  The joint statement which can be found at www.evolutionnotcreationism.org.uk asserts that the government should implement 'enforceable statutory guidance that they [intelligent design and creationism] may not be presented as scientific theories in any publicly-funded school of whatever type.'  It goes on to call for the teaching of evolution to 'be included at both primary and secondary levels in the National Curriculum and in all schools.'
